Writers don’t read a book like a normal person. Or rather, we shouldn’t.

Normal people just read and enjoy. They’re aware of what they’re feeling, but not how those effects are achieved.

But writers analyse. If we’re scared, or amused, or invested, then a key part of becoming a better writer is to ask why. How has the author done this to you?
