At some point in your writing career you need to announce to the world “I exist”. It’s handy to have a website you can point people to, where they can find out about you, what you have written (or intend to write), and how to contact you if they want to send you a fat cheque to help you along.
A website is one element of your author platform. In this marketing post I’d like to discuss that in more detail.
What Is This Author Platform Thingy?
No, it isn’t the low table I stand on when a big spider runs across the floor.
Your author platform is the totality of your online presence, and the many means by which you interact with your audience. So at the core will probably be your website, your newsletter, and your social media profiles. Each serves different purposes, often for different audiences.
The aim is to have a reasonable spread, so that the majority of people have a fairly easy time finding out about you and your work.
